Carbonate
A molecule containing the carbonate molecule (CO3 -2).
Cell membrane
The chemical structure distinguishing a cell from everything beyond.
Cephalopod
Marine mollusks, including squids and octopuses.
Crocodile tears
Phony tears of supposed sympathy
Enzyme
A biological molecule capable of carrying out chemical reactions.
Food web
The structure of food flow through an ecosystem.
Ionization
The process of giving an atom an electrical charge.
Isotope
Different versions of the same element, distinguished by the number of neutrons.
Meiofauna
Benthic (living on the bottom of a body of water) animals that can fit a mesh size of 1 mm and be retained on a mesh size of 42 micrometers.
Pathogenis
The causation of disease.
Phylum
One of the large groups of organisms, just below the kingdom level.
Plankton
Free-floating plants or animals.
Ribosome
A sub-cellular structure responsible for making proteins.
Symbiotic
A biological relationship which benefits both parties.
Taxonomy
Systematics; the classification and study of organisms
Vacuole
A cavity inside a cell bounded by a membrane.
