Cytoplasm The part of a cell between the nucleus and the cell membrane.

Enzyme A protein molecule capable of catalyzing (promoting) certain chemical reactions.

Hemophiliac Person suffering from hemophilia, a blood disease that greatly interferes with clotting.

Integrase An enzyme that allows viral DNA to be spliced into the host cell's genes.

Opportunistic infection A disease suffered by a person whose immune system is impaired (as in AIDS); these infections are usually not problematic in people with functioning immune systems.

Receptor A molecule on the surface of a cell that can bond only to specific molecules in the surrounding environment; usually used to send a signal or some material through the cell membrane.

SIV Simian immunodeficiency virus, a virus related to HIV that attacks some non-human primates.
